The Daily Baseline.

Ten questions across six sections. The universal triage and engagement system that drives every Superuser workflow, every Ask-ZALA response, every AIIO intervention, and every routine prescription. The same ten questions, the same answer options, on iOS and on the web.

AuthorAdham Rashwan, DPT Versionv1.0 PublishedApril 2026 Reading time~12 min

The Daily Baseline is the central triage and engagement loop of the ZALA platform. Submitted once per day. Under sixty seconds. Ten questions, plus a universal flag. Every answer emits a tag. The tag stream drives the Superuser dashboard, the Workout Builder, the Communication Mode, and the AIIO sidecar's response logic. Engineering wires Q1–Q9 as discrete signal streams and Q10 as the universal state flag.

Every response auto-generates a tag on the Superuser dashboard. The tags turn the Baseline from a passive survey into a real-time triage stream. Daily Baseline v1.0 · canonical

The ten questions

Grouped into six sections. Run them on the web at zala.ai/baseline.

§ Purpose & Priorities

Q1
What is the most important thing you want to accomplish today?
Multi-select
Training_Targets · Consistency · Recovery · Presence_Productivity · Other_Priority

§ Services Inquiry · the business-intelligence input

Q2
What are you seeking today?
Multi-select · dispatch routing
Book_Appointment · Review_Plan · Join_Workout · Find_Activity · Learn_New · Tribe_Support · Other_Service

Q2 is the canonical business-intelligence input. The member's direct self-report of what they're seeking — the system never has to guess. Aggregated across the population, Q2 responses become the Reporting analytics in the admin panel.

§ Physical & Energy State

Q3
How does your body feel right now?
Multi-select · feeds Readiness + Safety Floor
Ready · Stiff · Tired · In_Pain
Q4
Do you feel any discomfort or tightness? Where?
Multi-select · pain-location specific
None · Head_Neck · Shoulder · Upper_Back · Lower_Back · Pelvis_Hips · Knees · Ankle_Foot · Other_Discomfort
Q5
How would you rate your energy level right now?
Slider 1–10 · 1 = Exhausted · 10 = Fully energized
Stored as integer · canonical tag Energy_[1-10]
Q6
What is your physical focus for today?
Multi-select · Workout Builder routing
Strength · Speed · Endurance · Mobility · Recovery

§ Mental & Emotional State

Q7
How do you feel mentally and emotionally right now?
Multi-select · Communication Mode tuning
Focused · Calm · Distracted · Stressed · Motivated

§ Sleep & Recovery

Q8
Did you hit your target wake time today?
Single-select
Wake_On_Time · Wake_Slightly_Late · Wake_Significantly_Late
Q9
Did you hit your target sleep time last night?
Single-select · paired with wearable sleep_score
Sleep_On_Time · Sleep_Slightly_Late · Sleep_Significantly_Late

§ ZALA Blue Status · the universal flag

Q10
How would you describe your overall state right now?
Single-select · feeds every classifier
01 · ZALA
Blue
Aligned, in flow, ready to perform.
02 · ZALA
Yellow
Slightly off, could use some support.
03 · ZALA
Red
Stuck, in pain, or overwhelmed — needs help.
Member self-flag is honored even when objective signals — HRV, sleep — read otherwise. Trust the self-flag. Daily Baseline v1.0 · canonical rule

How the tags drive triage

  • Tag stream → Dashboard surface. Superuser sees a grid of every member's current tags at a glance.
  • Proactive engagement. If In_Pain + Lower_Back + ZALA_Red appear together, Superuser reaches out without waiting for a request.
  • Routine adaptation. Q3 + Q4 + Q5 + Q6 directly adjust today's workout. Tired + Energy_3 drops intensity. Ready + Energy_9 + Speed unlocks max-effort.
  • Safety floor. Q3 = In_Pain triggers a clinical check-in regardless of Q10 flag. Q10 = Red + Q3 = In_Pain fires STOP.RED_FLAG.

What this refuses to be

The Baseline is not a check-in. It is not a journal prompt. It is not a wellness survey. It is the universal state self-report that drives every classifier and every Superuser response. The brand vocabulary is canonical: it is called the Daily Baseline. Not the morning check-in. Not the daily mood log.
